Fifteen awards are up for grabs at the 2013 edition of the CommsMEA Awards. Fifteen awards are up for grabs at the 2013 edition of the CommsMEA Awards.

OK, I know what you’re thinking. This is the August issue of the magazine and we’re already asking you to think about the CommsMEA Awards, which takes place on December 4.

That seems like a long time away, but in fact it’s far from being too early to start thinking about your nominations for the Awards, for several reasons. Firstly, if you want your company to enter the awards, the date you need to keep in mind is the nominations deadline, which is October 3.

While the Summer months might feel a bit slow compared to the rest of the year, now is the right time to start thinking about your nominations and to discuss the event with your colleagues, because before you know it, after the Eid holiday, the month of September will be fast approaching. And that means that there will be just six weeks left to prepare your awards entries!

So please, without wanting to become repetitive, if you are interested in entering the CommsMEA Awards - and I’m sure you are - please kick-start the process now to ensure that you have a nomination that you are proud of, and that stands a fighting chance of winning.

The good news is that entering the awards is easy. Just visit our dedicated Awards website at: http://www.commsmea.com/awards/ and click on the “Nominations” tab at the top of the screen. On the right hand side you should now see three tabs: Entry Guidelines, Awards Categories and Submit Nominations. Please read each of these sections to familiarise yourself with the awards, the different categories of award, and the nominations process.

Each nomination should be about 500 words in length. This means you must be clear and concise, and get straight to the point about why your company deserves to win. On top of the 500 word entry, you can also send supporting documents, such as marketing material, to the email address provided in the Entry Guidelines section. I recommend that you draft your nomination on a Word document, and then when you are ready, and have registered or logged in under the “Submit Nominations” section, you can paste your entry into the relevant field when prompted by the “Submit Nomination” process.

Remember, each company can enter as many categories as it wants, but each applicant can only submit one nomination per category. Of course, we also accept nominations from third parties, and we encourage companies and individuals to send in nominations for players that they believe have excelled in their field.

And now that’s out of the way, here is some background information about the awards. The 2013 event will be the 8th edition of the CommsMEA Awards, which is now well-established as the leading awards event for the region’s telecoms sector.

The CommsMEA Awards recognise the operators, vendors, regulators and individuals that have made an outstanding contribution to the region’s fast changing telecoms sector.

The event itself will take place on December 4 at Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai, with the winners collecting their awards during a gala dinner in front of the leading lights of the Middle East and Africa’s telecoms sector.

This year, there are 15 awards with categories covering operators, vendors, regulators and application providers. The entries will be judged by a panel of respected industry experts in October and early November, before excitement reaches fever pitch as December approaches.
