ICT professionals are set to converge in Qatar in May for Qitcom, a conference and exhibition designed to showcase the country’s offering in terms of infrastructure, partnerships and research and development for ICT players.
The event, which will include a conference and exhibition, will be based around the themes of “innovate, connect and transform”, according to Marwan Marouf Mahmoud, executive director for ICT industry development at telecoms regulator, ICT Qatar.
“The first stream is innovation and digital content. The second stream is networking and broadband technology and the third stream is transforming the environment using those innovations and infrastructure technologies,” Mahmoud said.
Qitcom has already attracted some notable speakers, including: Guy Kawasaki, former chief evangelist of Apple, who is also co-founder of Alltop.com; Phil Jenkins, chairman of the planning committee of the United States Access Board; Mohamad Mourad, regional manager, Google; and Gabriella Gauthey, senior VP public affairs, Alcatel-Lucent.
Mahmoud added that attendees will not only gain access to information about Qatar’s ICT sector, but will also get a “MENA-wide” view. “We hope to show the value for the companies and investors, and help CTOs grow their strategies based on the innovations they see,” he said.
Mahmoud added that ICT Qatar also plans to demonstrate the ICT infrastructure that Qatar has invested in, with a particular focus on broadband networks.
“We would like to show them [delegates] that the infrastructure will be in place for them to securely place their applications on the cloud and use the network infrastructure for those cloud services.”
Qitcom will take place on May 24-26 at the Doha International Exhibition Center. The event is being organised by IFP Qatar in partnership with ICT Qatar.
