Etisalat’s LTE network is now available for its postpaid customers in the UAE, offering mobile broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Etisalat said that the E398-LTE USB modems, which customers need in order to access the service, were made available today. Priced at AED 799, the devices are widely available from all Etisalat Business Centers and outlets across the UAE.

New customers can also receive the device for free and access the LTE service by subscribing to Etisalat’s My DataPlan ‘Ultra’ pack bundle on a six or 12 months contract, which provides customers with the UAE’s largest data allowance of 20GB. Customers who opt for the package also get free hours of unlimited Internet usage and downloading from midnight to 3am every day.

Etisalat’s 4G LTE network will allow customers to enjoy speed-demanding apps such as video-streaming, video-conferencing, networked gaming and more, at speeds not available in the country so far.

Matthew Willsher, chief marketing officer, Etisalat, said that the commercial launch of the service and USB modems followed user trials that showed “exceptionally satisfying performance”.

“In coming months, our customers can expect a range of LTE compatible data-centric wireless routers and tablets, and 4G enabled phones, as and when they are available in the market,” Willsher said.

Etisalat has deployed nearly 1000 base stations and its LTE footprint covers all of the UAE’s main cities and about 70% of the population.

The FDD-LTE network allows full mobility and transition between LTE and HSPA+. For customers traveling outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Etisalat’s 3G network.
