Over 30 million people living in Iran have lost access to foreign email services such as Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo mail, according to the Press Association.

Authorities in the national telecommunications company have refused to comment on the outage, which began on Thursday last week, a report by the semi-official Iranian Mehr agency said.

Iran has periodically restricted the internet and blocked websites such as Facebook, Twitter and BBC Farsi since the 2009 elections.
