Etisalat Misr has announced the success of its 84Mbps HSPA+ trial.

This is the first trial in the MENA region and is based on two technologies, ‘dual carrier’ and MIMO. Together these technologies stretch HSPA+ to the maximum limit in order to achieve what Etisalat Misr recorded as a peak & average throughput of 70+Mbps & 60+Mbps HSPA+ respectively.

Haitham AbdulRazzak, Etisalat Misr’s Chief Technical Officer states that: ‘Over the past two years, Etisalat worked on transforming its network to an ALL-IP network, and equally important on extending 3G coverage to new rural and low ARPU areas.’

He continues that: ‘On a parallel track, special attention was paid to providing high capacity solutions to accommodate the exponential growth in traffic in hotspots. Today it seems obvious that rational investment in technology has paid back by paving the road for Etisalat to maintain the highest market share in the Egyptian broadband market for five consecutive years.’
