Google's latest version of the Android operating system includes more enhancements for Arabic language, the company has announced.

Android 4.1, known as ‘Jelly Bean', was released this week at the Google I/O developers conference. Jelly Bean has been improved to deliver smoother and faster browsing and application usage, dynamic notifications, and a smarter, more accurate keyboard.

Arabic improvements include support for bidirectional and right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Farsi. Jelly Bean offers Arabic as one of the User-Interface (UI) languages and also offers system Apps have been localized and support Arabic fonts. The new Jelly Bean features for Arabic are also available for developers in the region to develop new apps for Arabic users.

Moreover Arabic font ‘Droid Naskh' has been optimized resulting in beautiful rendering on Arabic text. Arabic glyphs have been optimized for web browsing in addition to text input. These new features are also available in open source for developers in the region to develop new more localized apps for Arabic users.

Google says that to date, more than 400 million Android devices have been activated worldwide, with current adoption rates of 12 new Android devices being activated every second.
