Saudi Arabia has been ranked as the Arab world's most competitive cellular market.

According to the results of Arab Advisors Group's Cellular Competitive Intensity Index in June 2012, the Kingdom was ranked as the most competitive cellular market followed by Jordan and Palestine.

Saudi Arabia came in with a 74.56% mark. This is followed by Jordan (70.67%), Palestine (70.43%), Egypt (67.86%), Oman (67.01%), Morocco (64.20%), Iraq (62.45%), Tunisia (61.13%), Bahrain (61.01%), Algeria (58.91%), Sudan (56.72%), Mauritania (55.63%), Yemen (55.19%), Kuwait (52.58%), UAE (49.01%), Qatar (47.14%), Syria (39.75%), Lebanon (38.84%) and Libya (32.68%).

The Arab Advisors Group had devised the index to rate the intensity of competition in the Arab world's cellular markets. The index evaluates the number of operators, packages and services in each of the 19 countries covered by the Arab Advisors group.

The index examined the following:

Number of licensed and expected operators in 2012, number of working operators, market share of largest operator, number of prepaid plans, number of postpaid plans, availability of smart phone plans, availability of corporate offers, availability of 3G services and the availability of operational ILD (International Long Distance) competition.

"Saudi Arabia hosts four operational and licensed operators. Consumers have a choice of twenty four prepaid plans and twenty six postpaid plans. Saudi Arabia's score benefited from the availability of smart phone plans, corporate offers, 3G services and ILD competition." Mohammed Al-Shawwa, Arab Advisors Group senior research analyst noted.
