Wataniya Telecom appoints new CEO


Kuwaiti operator, Wataniya Telecom, has appointed its deputy CEO, Abdulaziz Fakhroo, as CEO, replacing Dr. Bassam Hannoun who resigned for personal reasons, the company said in a statement.

Hannoun had held the position of CEO since August 2012. He was formerly CEO at Wataniya Palestine, and joined Wataniya Kuwait to replace Scott Gegenheimer, who went on to become group CEO at Zain.

HE Sh. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, chairman at Ooredoo Group, the parent company of Wataniya Telecom, said: “We sincerely thank Dr. Hannoun for his contribution during his tenure. We look forward to having Mr. Abdulaziz lead Wataniya Kuwait as it enters an exciting new phase in its development including the launch of 4G services this year.”
