Zain has appointed two new C-level executives.

Emre Gurkan joins the company as chief strategy officer, while Albert Fernandez has been announced as the new chief commercial officer. Both are based in Kuwait and report directly to the Group CEO Scott Gegenheimer.

With over 20 years of experience, Gurkan is a seasoned telecoms executive encompassing deep consulting and industry expertise in Turkey, Middle East, Africa, North America and Europe.

Prior to joining Zain, Gurkan was the group chief strategy officer of Oger Telecom. He has also held other senior roles in AT Kearney and McKinsey & Company in Atlanta, Dallas, Istanbul and Dubai offices and served leading telecom operators in various regions. Prior to that, he worked at Turkcell Telecommunications, Baan Company and was a co-founder of an applications development company.

Albert Fernandez comes to Zain Group with an outstanding track record over 18 years of professional experience in the telecommunications industry in the fields of marketing, branding, sales and customer care services, having been involved in operations across 20 countries, mainly in Europe and Africa both at senior operational levels as well as a consultant with Diamond Cluster.

Fernandez has been Chief Commercial Officer with Vimpelcom and Telefonica subsidiaries and has held senior roles with MTN.
