Eldynero Santos, general manager of Comba Telecom Middle East, discusses how the company helps to expand wireless networks and its goals for the 2022 World Cup.
CommsMEA: What solutions does Comba offer?
Comba Telecom is a supplier of infrastructure and wireless enhancement solutions to mobile operators, government entities and private companies to enhance and extend their wireless communications networks. Comba’s product portfolio includes wireless enhancement, antennas and subsystems, wireless transmission, and airless access (access points, access controllers, service gateway, etc.) equipment. Comba’s end-to-end network solutions include consultation, network design, installation, commissioning and optimisation.
CommsMEA: How long has Comba been in the Middle East and who is it working with here?
Comba Telecom Middle East was established in 2008 to initially support the UAE region only. It started with four employees and has now increased to 41 employees, due to significant growth of the business. It has expanded its sales and support operations to different countries across the region. Comba is now providing its products and services to key mobile operators, government entities, private companies, vendors and system integrators in the Middle East, with headquarters in Dubai and satellite offices in Doha and Tehran.
CommsMEA: Comba’s portfolio includes Nanocell technology — why is this technology important to operators?
Small cell has been gradually gaining the operators’ attention as a rapid, low-cost and excellent solution to address the issues of capacity, access and weak coverage of the networks. As an important complement to macrocell, small cell delivers outstanding performance by increasing capacity, providing precise and in-depth coverage as well as hotspot traf?c coverage. With the features of low-cost, convenient installation and rapid deployment, small cell is gaining acceptance gradually by the operators as a new model of network deployment.
CommsMEA: Comba has a big presence in sports events and venues — are you looking at that sector in the region?
Eight out of 12 stadiums that will be used for the upcomingFifa Brazil World Cup, have multi-band solutions that were designed, supplied and installed by Comba. We also supplied our DAS equipment to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, which included installation, commissioning, training and maintenance services. Comba Middle East is currently in talks with local operators in the Middle East regarding the design for stadiums that will be used during the 2022 Fifa World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.
