The Convergence Summit, organized by Arab Advisors, has gathered over 500 telecoms leaders to discuss the challenges and priorities in the Telecommunication sector in the Middle East.
The opening speech was made by Profesor Isaa Batarseh, president of the Royal Scientific Society and chairman of the board of trustees on behalf of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, who couldn’t attend the event.
The speakers in the different sessions highlighted the relevance of the telecommunication and ICT sector, as a key driver of the economic transformation.
During the first speech on “the state of the industry”, the speakers commented on the importance of cooperation between operators and regulators to achieve a competitive and healthy environment in the region.
Luigi Gambardella, chairman of the executive board of ETNO and vice president of Telecom Italia, moderated this first session. Dr. Paul Doany, managing director at Doany Partners, Ahmad Hanandeh, CEO at Zain Jordan, Mustafa Hasan, general manager at Hulul, Ihab Hinnawi, CEO at Umniah and Sami Smeirat, vice president at Orange Jordan were the speakers during the first session.
They highlighted the higher education system in the region as a key factor in the development of the sector. The speakers also agreed on the need of a change in the mindset, as there is still “the old one”, as they referred it when talking about the business model applied in the region.
In these sessions, the companies will announce new partnerships and agreements as they will propose solutions or guidelines for the future telecommunication market that needs to be planed ahead.
