MTN Ghana has met its target of increasing the cumulative number of its base transceiver stations (BTS) to 3,557 by the end of 2014, by reporting 2,361 2G sites and 1,201 3G+ sites in operation at that date, according to Ghana Business News.

Following GHS311 million ($96.4 million) network expenditure in 2014, the operator has upgraded 1,850 existing BTS by year-end, with approximately 4,295km of fibre-optic cable linking the sites at that date.

Cynthia Lumor, corporate services executive at MTN Ghana, said: "MTN Ghana is plugged into the objective to transform Ghana into a knowledge-based society and technology-driven economy … Customers’ needs are fast changing and what is remarkable is the rapid growth of data services in remote parts of the country and how this is transforming lives in those communities."
