Yousef Abu Mutawe, COO at Zain Jordan, said that governments in the Middle East region are not promoting and encouraging operators to invest in telecommunications infrastructure with the exception of the UAE.
During the panel session about the state of the industry, held in the Arab Advisors Convergence Summit, Mutawe talked about the need of a different business model and more innovation to improve the telecommunications sector.
Mutawe asked governments to invest and promote SMEs in the countries to promote innovations in the telecoms industry.
During the panel session, speakers talked about the spectrum fees in the region and highlighted that Jordan is the country with the highest fee in the Middle East.
The event, which is being held under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, president of the Royal Scientific Society, will see delegates discuss some of the most challenging issues in the industry.
