What might be the cheapest product from Apple’s fleet so far has finally been launched. The prices indicate the brand’s extreme interest in the mid-tier smartphone users segment. The iPhone SE, comes with a four-inch display, in a compact aluminum design with four gorgeous metallic finishes, including rose gold. Interestingly, iPhone SE is equipped with the same 64-bit A9 chip offered in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus for fast speeds and longer battery life. Other specs include a 12-megapixel iSight camera featuring live photos and 4K video, and touch ID with Apple pay. So, the new phone seems a hybrid of the style of iPhone 5s and the features of iPhone 6s.
Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing said: “iPhone SE is an exciting new idea — we started with a beloved, iconic design and reinvented it from the inside out. The result is the most beautiful and powerful phone with a four-inch display in the world”. “iPhone SE is packed with a stunning four-inch Retina display, advanced 64-bit A9 chip with M9 motion co-processor, longer battery life, 12-megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash, Live Photos, 4K video, faster LTE and Wi-Fi, and Touch ID with Apple Pay. Everyone who wants a smaller phone is going to love iPhone SE.”
Greg Joswiak, VP of product marketing for Apple, said: “Some people simply love smaller phones. And the 4in phone is often their first iPhone. So we’re calling it the iPhone SE. Our most powerful 4in phone ever.”
Several analysts believe that a cheaper iPhone could lead to higher demand for the brand in emerging markets against less-expensive rivals from Samsung and Xiaomi.
