Christian Putz, director, EEMEA, Pure Storage, tells CommsMEA how advanced flash storage solutions ensure best ROI for telcos.
CommsMEA: Do telcos need to update their storage solutions? Why?
Today, telcos are looking to take better-advantage of data in high volume, velocity and variety. Traditional disk storage solutions were not built to manage big data or make the leap to the solid-state cloud which is why telcos looking to gain a competitive advantage, must consider all flash storage solutions.
Telcos have to invest in infrastructure to support the ever-increasing data volumes from mobile users, and the superior TCO of Pure’s Evergreen model means that storage OPEX costs for 5 or 10 years are flat, allowing more investment in service improvement.
CommsMEA: How can the solutions from Pure Storage improve the value proposition offered by telcos?
Pure Storage can deliver the all flash data centre for both structured and unstructured data. Telco core applications (billing, provisioning, and order management) are the environments where Pure Storage solutions are making the difference. Today, FlashArray//m is running behind some major international telco core applications, delivering huge value in terms of: numbers of orders delivered per day, and velocity in deployment of new environments for test and development.
Pure is improving the productivity with direct impact on revenue and on OPEX management particularly in the hosting and DC services. Hosting and service providers can benefit from the “Capacity Guarantee Program” that Pure has in place to support partners when they design solution for end users.
Furthermore, following the adoption from AWS, Google and Azure, other telcos are starting to re-consider SSD based storage for their IaaS requirements.
CommsMEA: Can Pure Storage contribute to reduced customer churn for telcos ?
Customer churn is often caused by service interruption, but more commonly, unacceptable service levels due to peak loads on systems never designed for the workloads of the modern data centre and ‘everything-as-a-service’. Pure Storage Smart Storage has been designed from the ground up for Cloud IT and has a globally proven track record of delivery above customer expectations in environments with highly unpredictable workloads, profiles and massive consolidation requirements.
CommsMEA:What’s the best strategy for telcos in your opinion- all flash or hybrid?
Retrofitted hybrid systems introduce additional overheads complexity in provisioning, automation/orchestration and compromises in performance and latency and as such, in my opinion, all flash is the way forward.
