After months of rumours, Samsung finally ‘unpacked' the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, and revealed its key features, but does it stack up to Apple's iPhone series?

Well if you're on the fence on whether to upgrade to the latest Samsung device, here are 10 features you won't find on Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

1. Infinity Display
By toying with the bezel, Samsung has now introduced a screen that takes up 83% of the interface, which means the S8 has a 5.8" screen and the S8 Plus has a 6.2" face. Apple however, has used the same iPhone design for the past three years - the iPhone 7 has a 4.7" screen and the iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5" screen.

2. Iris scanner
Samsung has included an iris scanner, as well as facial recognition technology, and both rely on the front facing camera to work. Apple only features a fingerprint sensor.

3. Wireless charging
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus ship with wireless charging support, including Qi and Samsung's own fast wireless charging tech. Despite working on wireless charging, Apple has yet to implement it into its devices.

4. Headphone jack
Apple famously removed the headphone jack from its iPhone 7 series, however Samsung did not follow suit.

5. Desktop
Samsung's DeX Station accessory enables users to dock their Galaxy S8 or S8+ and connect it to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. With the iPhone users are only able to mirror what is on the screen onto an external display.

6. Fast charging
Samsung has included large 3,000 mAh and 3,500 mAh batteries and has USB-C fast charging which is reportedly faster than Apple Lightning connecter.

7. Expandable storage
Samsung S8 range supports a MicroSD card slot with storage capabilities up to 256GB. Apple devices can reach 32GB, 128GB and 256GB, but without the expandable option.

8. Bixby
Samsung's digital assistant is capable of taking images and providing relevant information; Apple's Siri does not support camera functionalities.

9. 10nm processor
Samsung beat Apple by embedding both the Snapdragon 835 and the Exynos 8895 are 10nm chips, providing dramatic improvements in performance and efficiency.

10. Heart rate sensor
On the back of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus range features a heart rate sensor offering the user with up-to-date pulse checks. To do this with an Apple device, additional accessories like the Apple Watch would have to be purchased.

The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be available starting on 21 April, and will be offered in a variety of colours: Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold, and will possibly cost AED2,799.
