UAE operator du has committed to deliver 10,000 volunteer hours in Ramadan this year, which also happens to mark du's tenth anniversary. du will continue its Mawaed Al Rahman initiative to pack and distribute boxes of essential food ingredients to thousands of underprivileged families across the UAE, so that they can enjoy healthy Iftar meals with their families.
du is partnering with Tarahum to drive individual and corporate volunteerism. du is holding two activities: packing and distributing, and inviting people to volunteer for one or both of these. Volunteers will work together to pack essential Ramadan food items into reusable, environmentally friendly boxes from May 27 to June 15 between 5pm and 12am at the Adhaaf Sports Club in Al Quoz industrial area in Dubai. The distribution initiative will begin on May 29 to June 17. Volunteers can get in touch through http://www.du.ae/ramadan to book their place.
“Every year we aim to do something special to make a real and positive impact on our communities and increase happiness during Ramadan. We have long held the view that volunteering delivers benefits for all stakeholders involved, both corporate volunteers and individuals, and we are urging everyone to get involved, in line with the Year of Giving,” said Abdulwahed Juma, EVP, brand and corporate communications, du. “We take the approach of empowering every single person, and company to participate in any way that suits them, while simultaneously giving families the choice of creating Iftar meals by providing them healthy ingredients, and enjoying a traditional Emirati Ramadan experience together.
"This year, Mawaed Al Rahman coincides with the Year of Giving launched by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and focuses on the three pillars of corporate social responsibility, volunteering, in addition to serving the UAE and strengthening the solidarity and compassion among all its members," said Amin Yousef Al Khaja from Tarahum.
In 2016, du’s Mawaed Al Rahman initiative, in partnership with Tarahum, engaged 1,019 UAE residents and citizens, who collectively contributed over 5,600 volunteering hours. Last year, du distributed over 12,300 boxes of Ramadan food items to families in Dubai and Northern Emirates.
