Kicking off a brand new promotional campaign, Expo 2020 Dubai has placed Barcelona and Argentina football star Lionel Messi in the spotlight of a new video.
Shot in the UAE, India, UK and Kenya, the video depicts people around the planet passing on an Expo 2020-branded ball, signifying the importance of the upcoming event in breaking down global barriers and celebrating diversity.
According to Expo 2020 Dubai, the video itself was put together by a multinational team and was scored with music containing an Arabic melody, along with a call for unity in an African dialect.
“A football team can only succeed by working together, and the same is true of humanity,” commented the famed football star in relation to the video.
“When people from different nations, cultures and backgrounds come together we can better address global challenges and create a brighter future for generations to come.”
In addition to serving as a UN Sustainable Development Goals advocate and UNICEF goodwill ambassador, Messi was named an Expo 2020 Dubai global ambassador back in 2016.
It has also been reported by the Expo that the organisation will gift over 6,060 footballs equally to children living in Jordan, Kenya and the Philippines.
Sanjive Khosla, Expo 2020 Dubai’s deputy chief of sales and marketing, said: “As undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest footballers, Lionel Messi embodies Expo 2020’s global role as a facilitator of new ideas, innovation and progress.”
“The new campaign video uses football to show that when we connect and collaborate, we can build a brighter tomorrow together.”
