Viavi launched its NSC-100, the first in a new class of field test instruments called the Network & Service Companion. It integrates the passive optical network (PON), Ethernet and WiFi test capabilities together with the automated process known as Viavi OneCheck. The compact and rugged device is designed to address demand from service providers for intuitive instruments that front-line technicians and contractors of any skill level can pick up and begin using.
With broadband network deployment soaring, we know that 88 per cent of these networks are based on fiber to the premises (FTTP), and further extensions into the premises via WiFi or Ethernet are common. Therefore, field technicians are expected to validate or troubleshoot multiple types of networks and services.
Designed to validate current and future gigabit services, the device tests for both network delivery and system performance. It features a robust, field-ready screen-less design and is operated directly via the Viavi Tech application, or paired with other Viavi test instruments.
The Network & Service Companion uses the Viavi OneCheck automated test process to ensure a technician completes all the necessary tests while on site. To optimize workflow further, the NSC-100 is also supported by StrataSync. This is a cloud-based solution that provides asset, configuration, and test data management for Viavi instruments ensuring that all instruments have the latest software and options installed.
Commenting on the launch, Kevin Oliver, vice president and general manager for converged instruments and virtual tests at Viavi said “Efficiency is the watchword of the Network & Service Companion. We designed it so a technician can pinpoint service performance issues in under a minute, and close out tickets on the first visit, optimizing time, expense and subscriber satisfaction, even as networks and services get ever more complex.”
