Airtel Kenya, the local unit of Indian telecoms firm Bharti Airtel, has announced the commercial launch of 4G LTE services. Coverage is currently available in the cities of Nairobi and Mombasa, although the network will be expanded to other locations in due course, according to reports.

At the beginning of 2018, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) confirmed that Airtel had paid $25 million for a licence to provide LTE services in the 800MHz frequency band, with the cellco stating that it had been testing a 4G network since April 2017.
