At MWC 2018, Equinix talked about interconnection, which gives proximity to all the ecosystems involved in delivering a real-time product or services.
"For operators, network performance remains a top priority as more and more devices come online and more data hits the network. With new digital use cases the challenge for multiple operators, is to deliver to real-time product or services," says Jeroen Schlosser, MD, Equinix MENA.
One of the biggest highlights at this year’s MWC was Ericsson announcing that it has extended its partnership with Equinix to offer IT managed services leveraging the Equinix Performance Hub solution. "The solution provides an affordable, low-risk approach significantly improving network and application performance while reducing bandwidth costs by up to 40%," says Schlosser.
"A key takeaway this year was seeing how companies are increasingly familiarising themselves with using interconnection and using it in mobile technology to deliver the next-generation connected car, new payment ecosystems, IoT solutions, improving 5G networks among other exciting developments."
Going forward, where do we see telcos investing the most in? According to Schlosser, digitisation will create an estimated $2T in value over the next decade, but to successfully capture this opportunity, remain competitive, create unique experiences and manage costs, operators need to reinvent themselves, their processes, infrastructures and business models – this is an area where telcos need to invest in. "WAN optimisation solutions strategically deployed near end users can dramatically increase network performance and provide a better user experience. Platforms must connect digital business physically and virtually around the world, enabling companies to reach everywhere, interconnect everyone and integrate everything."
